 Acclaimed writer and director Karen Moncrieff has assembled an all-star cast for her latest indie movie The Dead Girl, which follows the lives of five different people who are all unrelated, but somehow have a connection to a murdered young woman. Brittany Murphy plays "the Dead Girl" and Marcia Gay Harden is her mother searching for answers to her daughter's life and her murder.
The film also stars Josh Brolin, Rose Byrne, Toni Collette, Bruce Davison, James Franco, Mary Beth Hurt, Piper Laurie, Giovanni Ribisi, Nick Searcy, Mary Steenburgen and Kerry Washington.

'The White Hotel' To Take Brittany Murphy In The Lead

After several failed attempts over the years, 'The White Hotel' will finally be made starring Brittany Murphy in the lead.
The film directed by Simon Monjack is an adaptation of the acclaimed novel by D.M.Thomas, according to Hollywood Reporter.
The role was initially offered to Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep and Barbra Streisand, but is now set to star Murphy in the role of an opera singer.

 British dance music DJ PAUL OAKENFOLD has signed up to produce actress BRITTANY MURPHY's debut album, after falling in love with her voice. The unlikely collaborators worked together earlier this year on Oakenfold's UK top-ten hit FASTER KILL PUSSYCAT, and the acclaimed mix master was blown away by the 8 MILE star's talent. He says, "Brittany was great. Her voice is fantastic, so I told her I'd produce her album for her."

 A rep for actress Brittany Murphy confirms that she and her fiancé, Joe Macaluso, have split.
"Brittany Murphy and Joe Macaluso have amicably ended their engagement," Murphy's publicist, Nicole Perna, told The ShowBuzz in a statement. "They remain close friends and wish each other much happiness."

It could be said that Edward Burns has rehashed the themes, characters, and spirit of his first film, that micro-budgeted hit The Brothers McMullen, in most every movie he's helmed since. By and large, follow-ups like She's the One, No Looking Back, and Sidewalks of New York were indistinguishable from McMullen—as well as from each other. Like the trap Woody Allen has fallen into at various points in his prolific career, the "write what you know" school of creativity can often lead to a tedious well of diminishing returns. That's why it's such a nice surprise that even though Burns hasn't strayed far (if at all) from familiar turf, he's created such a moving and mature entertainment in his latest New York story, The Groomsmen.
In some respects, The Groomsmen recalls ensemble films like Diner and The Big Chill even more than it does Burns' past work. ... Read More ...
